Chhindwara Jagannath Rath Yatra MP

Every year the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taken out in Puri on the second date of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. Apart from Lord Jagannath, the chariot of his elder brother Balarama and sister Subhadra is also taken out in the Rath Yatra. First of all, the Taldhwaj chariot of Balabhadra Ji is taken out. After this the Darpadalan chariot of Subhadra Ji takes place. In the end, the devotees start pulling the chariot of Lord Jagannath Ji Nandighosh with the help of big ropes.

In Chhindwara, the Rath Yatra is carried out like a Puri

The Rath Yatra of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath Ji has started in the year 2015 in Chhindwara city of Madhya Pradesh.  Since then the Rath Yatra of Lord Shri Jagannath Ji is taken out every year. Every year the nature of Rath Yatra is getting bigger. Here the invaluable devotion of the devotees is the core of the Rath Yatra. On the day of Jagannath Rath Yatra, Lord Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannath along with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra sets out to meet the devotees and visit the city.
According to the beliefs of the Hindu religion, whoever pulls the chariot by participating in this Rath Yatra, gets the virtue equivalent to performing a hundred yagnas.

It is only after the Pahandi Vijay tradition that the Lord is placed on the chariot. Devotees dance with devotion in the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. Following the Pahandi Vijay tradition, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Mata Subhadra ride on a chariot to offer darshan to the devotees. After that, all the devotees pull the chariot.
The chariot of the Lord is taken out with traditional symbols and devotional hymns. Like Puri, the devotees pull the chariot of the Lord. All the devotees wear yellow-colored clothes during the Yatra. 56 Bhog is offered to the Lord on this day.

Jagannath rath yatra chhindwara 2021

Chhindwara Jagannath Rath Yatra is celebrated with pomp every year but this time the event was celebrated among limited devotees.

The chariot of Chhindwara is like the Nandighosha chariot of Puri-

This year the chariot was specially decorated. The chariot was decorated in such a way that a glimpse of the chariots of the three Gods was shown in a single chariot. Basically, this chariot is the Nandighosh chariot of Lord Shri Jagannath, but when viewed from all directions, it appears to be a chariot of different Gods.

In the next western part of the chariot, there was a view of the front part of the chariot of the three Gods decorated with red-colored clothes dedicated to Sri Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra, and Mahaprabhu Sri Jagannath. From the south side (right side) it appeared red-green, which is of the Taladhwaja chariot of Mahadev Shri Balabhadra. In the rear eastern part of the chariot, the Darpadalan chariot covered with red-black robes of Mahadevi Subhadra was seen. The Nandighosh chariot of Mahaprabhu Sri Jagannath Swami, dressed in a yellow-reddish cloth was seen in the left part of the chariot.

  2. Champanath & Mahadevi Temples This was the last day of our trip; so we thought, why don’t we make detour instead of going directly to Ratapat. Two temples were on the way and our schedule was free till the evening when the festivities were to start. So off we went.

First we went to Champanath temple in the village of Champeshwar. Lying pretty close to Narsinghpur, this Shiva Peeth is quite famous for the large number of turtles that reside in the adjoining water reservoir. Over 200 in number, these turtles attract tourists the year round. Another speciality of this temple is the idol of Lord Shiva himself. The idol faces westwards unlike any other idol in the country which faces east.

The priests of this temple are not Bramhins. Rather, it has been tradition to appoint priests from lower castes in this temple for a very long time.

From there, we made our way to the Mahadevi Temple situated at Dasarathipur close to Badamba. Animal sacrifice is still practiced here, most preferred being buffaloes. There is also a belief among locals that anyone caught stealing must confess before Mahakali or ill omen may befall him.

From there we took to a dirt road to a nearby river which is said to have elephant sightings every now and then. No human construction is allowed so as to let the elephant migration route to have free passage. There is also small dam and reservoir for irrigation of nearby fields.

Finally we arrived at Ratapat for the final event of the day, the last day of the Boita-Bandhana Festival. It involves small idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra being placed on a small boat-like platform and led by a procession through the village.
