Where there is now a record room, the treasury of the British was kept there during the British period.
The building adjacent to the Collectorate complex of chhindwara, in which the government records are kept, was the main place of keeping the British treasury before independence. Takabi collected from moneylenders and zamindars was deposited here. Later private bankers started working here. Rai Bahadur Kachorimal used to work as a banker in that period. People used to deposit money with him like a bank and take a passbook.
Later on Twelve September 1955, the State Bank of India branch was established in the district. State Bank also started its branch from here. After the building on Khajri Road was ready, the bank was shifted there. Later, the building was used as a government record room.
Around 1984, the public relations office in a part of that building also started operating from this building. Earlier, government records were kept safe here. According to those who know the history of the city, at the time when the treasury of the British was kept in the said building, Then people were not even allowed to go around the building. The officers of the British rule used to keep a security cordon like a cantonment here. The British officers used to collect money in the form of tax from the whole district. And used to take this money collected from all over the district from here.
Now from a few years back, the office of the Public Relations Department has shifted to the Collector's office. Now the old building is being used entirely as a record room.
