Beautification of Indira Tiraha



Indira Tiraha has been redeveloped by the Municipal Corporation. The statue of Indira Gandhi, established in 1996, has now been shifted nearby. The Jail Tiraha was renamed Indira Tiraha in 1996. Then there were grand events all over the city. 

After 23 years, the statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was shifted to a new place. Kamal Nath had unveiled the statue of late Indira Gandhi, the country's first female Prime Minister. It is named Indira Path. The height of the Indira statue was earlier 7 feet, which has now been increased to 10 feet by the Municipal Corporation. This 10 feet statue has been sourced from Gurgaon Haryana. 

Then in 1996, a 7 feet statue of Indira Gandhi was installed on Kamal Nath's birthday. The statue was then unveiled in the presence of three leaders, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir State Farooq Abdullah, Digvijay Singh, former Chief Minister, and MP Kamal Nath. The entire square was decorated like a bride. The statue was unveiled by three senior leaders. 7 feet statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was called from Jaipur.

Smt. Indira Gandhi was born on 19 November 1917 in Anand Bhawan, Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh). Her father's name was Jawaharlal Nehru, who was also the Prime Minister of India and her mother's name was Kamala Nehru, who was a freedom fighter. Her full name was Indira Priyadarshini. She also got a nickname which was Indira's abbreviation 'Indu'. Her grandfather's name was Motilal Nehru. It was Dada Pandit Motilal Nehru who named her 'Indira'. Indira Gandhi is called the Iron Woman of India.

Indira Gandhi received her primary education in Allahabad. She went to the University of Oxford in England for higher studies. After completing her schooling in 1934-35, Indira took admission in Santiniketan built by Rabindranath Tagore. Since childhood, Indira Gandhi was very fond of reading magazines and books. One advantage of this she got was that she had a lot of knowledge about the country and the world. She had a deep understanding of the current affairs of the world. She had a very good command of the English language.
She was married to Mr. Feroze Gandhi in 1942. Who remained famous as an MP, hardworking youth leader, and editor of a major English paper. They had two sons Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi.

She got the political environment in the form of ancestral heritage. Indira Gandhi joined the Indian Congress at the age of Twenty-one. She was arrested in September 1942 during the freedom movement, after which the government released her in May 1943. She was elected President of the Indian National Congress in 1959 at the age of Forty-two. Then after the death of Nehru on 27 May 1964, Indira became the Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the Shastri government by winning the election. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India twice. Indira Gandhi became the third and first woman Prime Minister of India on 24 January 1966. She was the Prime Minister of India from 1966 to 1977 and from 1980 to 1984. She fought fearlessly against communalism.

To strengthen her position in the party and the country, Indira Gandhi dissolved the Lok Sabha and announced mid-term elections, which left the opposition stunned. Indira Gandhi entered the election with the slogan 'Garibi Hatao' and gradually the electoral atmosphere started building in her favor. As a result, Congress got 352 seats out of the total 518. Congress got the majority.

Mrs. Gandhi was a very skilled connoisseur. Recognizing the time, conducting mid-term elections, governing strictly under emergency, becoming the president of the Non-Aligned Conference, organizing the Commonwealth Congress, nationalizing banks, she took many important decisions even though she was a woman. Indira Gandhi was known for her leadership skills. She had strong determination and strong willpower. She was the woman behind the defeat of Pakistan in 1971. She was awarded the Bharat Ratna from the President for his services to the nation of India.

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was shot dead by two of her security guards at her residence on Safdarjung Road in New Delhi at 9:29 am on the black Wednesday morning of 31 October 1984. In her death, the country has lost a worthy builder of India.
